Not everyone wants to spend on a remote before they know they’ll like scoring hands-free. This is the answer to that: a plain single-button Bluetooth clicker from a known brand, for about the price of a couple of padel balls. It’s no precision instrument - but for the money, it works.
What it is
The Hama BRS3 is a tiny camera-shutter remote: one combined power/action button, a CR2032 coin cell in the box, and a small hand strap. It pairs over Bluetooth 4.1 as a standard shutter - so there’s no app to install and it shows up in your phone’s Bluetooth list as “Hama BRS3.”
We don’t list a price. Amazon’s prices change and a stale figure would mislead (and would break Amazon’s terms). Check the live price on the product page.
How it fits PadelRef
Because it’s a single button, you map it the one-button way in PadelRef: single/double/triple click to add Team A, add Team B, and undo. That’s the trade-off at this price - one button means leaning on press patterns, so set a comfortable combo window and rehearse a double-click rhythm in the test-and-mapping wizard before you rely on it in a real game. The wizard matters more here than with a pricier remote: it’s how you confirm this specific unit pairs and triggers cleanly on your phone.
Hama BRS3 Bluetooth Remote Shutter
Best for Players who want the cheapest way to try hands-free scoring.
Pros
- About the cheapest sensible way to try hands-free scoring - near-disposable price
- Pairs natively as a BLE shutter (volume-key HID) - no vendor app, works on iOS and Android
- Tiny and light with a hand strap - disappears in your pocket or palm
- One CR2032 included, rated for roughly 2,000 presses - plenty for a long run of matches
Cons
- Can be slow detecting clicks, so it sends a double or triple click instead of the one you meant - widening the combo window helps
- Older Bluetooth 4.1 radio and real-world range that can dip - stay near your phone
- Pairing is finicky for a minority of buyers; test it well before match day

Where it cuts corners - honestly
It’s a budget part and it feels like one. The radio is an older Bluetooth 4.1 generation, and a few buyers report range that dips in practice - so keep your phone reasonably close to the court side you’re scoring from. Pairing is smooth for most people but genuinely fiddly for a minority; one or two have reported a flat battery out of the box. None of that is a dealbreaker at this price, but it’s why we’d point heavier users toward a sturdier pick.
Isn't there a newer version?
Yes - Hama has since released the BRS5, with a newer Bluetooth 5.3 radio that should pair faster and hold a connection more reliably. It’s pending our full review - we’re still putting it through a few matches - but on paper it improves on exactly the weak spots we flag in the BRS3 above, so we expect it to outperform it. We’ll publish a separate writeup once we’ve tested it; in the meantime you can take a look:

Buy this if your goal is to try hands-free scoring without committing - it’s cheap, it pairs without an app, and one button is enough to run a whole match once you’ve practised the click patterns. If you find yourself scoring every match this way, treat it as the gateway and step up to something with more buttons or a charged spare: see the best Bluetooth remotes for padel scoring and one-button vs multi-button remotes for where to go next.
